Visit by SFHG to Beamish Resource Centre on 13th November 2013

Members of Seaham Family History Group visited Beamish Museum on 13th November 2013 and were given a tour of the archives and the Resource Centre. The archivists are currently working on the artefacts donated for the centenary year of the outbreak of World War 1 and this will be the main theme of their work for the next few years. However, looking beyond the centenary, their next theme will be the 1930's.1940,s and 1950,s and they have amassed an enormous collection of household equipment from those times. The archivist told us that they were still following Frank Atkinson's (the original driving force of the Beamish concept) policy of "not refusing" any donated equipment/artefacts. You can imagine how big their collection in the archives has grown.
