Thompson's Red Stamp Store (1920's)

THompson's Red Stamp Store at the bottom of Church Street at the junction with South Terrace. Louis Quests's shop was next door on the corner. I remember going in with my mam when I was only 4 or 5 years old. The butter came out of a barrel, the cheese was cut from an enormous slab with a cheese cutter and split peas, rice etc was loose and packed by the assistant in a cone made from green or blue paper. The stiff cardboard centre of the roll of packing paper was given to all of the children shopping with their parents and made the perfect pea shooter.
