The Lewin No 18 steam raiilway engine working at Seaham Docks

The Lewins No 18 steam engine was smaller than most of the other steam engines and could get to places inaccesible to other engines at the Docks.

It was built by Stephen Lewin of Poole in 1877The Lewin No 18 steam engine operated at Seaham Harbour Docks hauling chaldron coal wagons for 93 years. Originally purchased by Lord Londonderry for his harbour it operated at Seaham Docks until it was taken out of commission in 1969. Beamish Museum acquired the engine in 1975.

It was completely overhauled and refurbished and has been a working engine at the Museum since about 2010.
