Silver trowel used to lay the foundation stone of Seaham Harbour (1828)

This silver trowel was used by the young Viscount Seaham to lay the foundation stone of the Londonderry Arms. This was the first house to be built in South Crescent and in the newly inaugurated town of Seaham Harbour. The date was 28th November 1828 and was the same day that the foundation stone of the new harbour was laid.
