Lady Edith, 7th Marchioness of Londonderry (1878-1959)

 

Colonel in Chief of the Women's Volunteer Reserve (WVR). The WVR was a force of volunteer women formed to replace the men who had joined the forces and were fighting at the front.  She was a friend of the first Labour Prime Minister - Ramsay MacDonald and was a noted gardener, writer and editor.

 

Lady Edith died aged 80 at Mount Stewart, County Down, Norther Ireland.
