Lady Londonderry opens new rifle range in Dawdon Dene (1911)

The Scotsman 30th May 1911

 

Lady Londonderry fired the first shot to open the  rifle range on 29th May 1911. On 12th July 1916 a German u-Boat submarine surfaced just outside the piers of Seaham Harbour and fired shells into the town. The clubhouse and range at Dawdon Dene took a direct hit. It was never rebuilt.
