Coals imported to Seaham Harbour and Ryhope coals to Ryhope Colliery (1892)

Background notes: The miners dispute had been ongoing for almost three months. The collieries at this time used coal furnaces in their ventilation of the mine. These furnaces operated continuously burning huge quantities of coal. It is quite probable that the coal "sent down" Ryhope Colliery was for this purpose. (Fred Cooper)
