Theatre Royal in Green Street (1973)

The Theatre Royal in Green Street was known as "The Gaff". The Golden Lion is on the right and the photograph was taken from the top of the docks over the railway tracks. The flat roofed building on the left is the Dock Company Weighbridge which was about about 100 yards from the Theatre Royal building. The weighbridge was knocked down about 1984. The entrance stairs to the theatre , offices and dressing rooms were on the right nearest to the Golden Lion. The auditorium was in the middle and to the left was the stage, backstage and fly floor. The Theatre Royal was demolished about 1975.
