Matron Dorothy Saunders of Seaham Infirmary

Dorothy was Matron during the 1880's and died of typhoid on 25th November 1890 believed to have been contracted from sailors she was nursing in the Infirmary. She was the wife of Seaham Shipowner James Saunders owner of the Ocean Queen and other sailiing ships from Seaham. She recorded that she nursed her husband through illness for 9 months 4 days and 6 hours until he died on March 10th 1880.
